Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has
denied discussing IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu’s release with Southeast Governors
during his meeting with them in Enugu on Tuesday.
The meeting, which included Chief Emeka Anyaoku, was organized to address regional development issues.
Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo’s special assistant on media, stated on Wednesday, July 3, that the discussions focused on regional development, including security and infrastructure.
Obasanjo remarked, “Other topics included economic cooperation and collaboration, intended to complement the national economic development agenda.”
He emphasized, “The meeting with the governors was at my invitation and that of Chief Emeka Anyaoku before their summit began. The issue of Nnamdi Kanu was not on the agenda and was not discussed in my presence.”
The governors present were Hope Uzodinma of Imo, Alex Otti of Abia, Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, and Peter Mbah of Enugu.
