Meta, the social media giant, has announced that starting July 1, 2024, content creators in Nigeria with at least 5,000 followers will be able to earn money on Facebook.

Meta introduced new monetization features, including In-Stream Ads on Facebook and Facebook Ads on Reels, to enable creators to earn from their original videos and community engagement.

According to a statement from Meta, eligible creators in both countries can monetize their video and reel content, with support available in over 30 languages globally.

The statement outlined: “Creators must comply with Facebook’s partnership and content monetization policies and be at least 18 years old to use these features. Additionally, for in-stream ads, creators need to have a minimum of 5,000 followers.”

Moon Baz, Global Partnerships Lead for Africa, Middle East, and Turkey at Meta, commented on the rollout: “We are continually inspired by African creators who use Facebook to share their stories, connect, and unite people. This expansion empowers eligible creators in Nigeria and Ghana’s creative industries to earn money and set high standards for creativity, making Meta’s apps the go-to platform for all creators.

“In-stream ads can appear before, during, or after on-demand videos, including pre-recorded content or recordings of previous live streams. Ads on Facebook Reels integrate seamlessly into original Reels, allowing creators to earn based on the performance of their Reels while entertaining their fans.”
