Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has declared that Ireti Kingibe, the current Senator representing the FCT, will not return to the Senate in 2027.
This declaration came in response to Kingibe’s remarks on Arise TV, where she claimed that FCT residents were unimpressed with Wike’s performance, stating that the FCT lacks schools, hospitals, and potable water.
Wike retorted that he is not in office to please Kingibe and asserted that he has performed well in his short tenure. Speaking at the flag-off of the Mabushi Bus Terminal in Abuja, Wike predicted that Kingibe would lose the support of FCT residents in the 2027 elections.
Wike expressed disappointment that, instead of collaborating with the FCT Administration, Kingibe was upset that residents were praising President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He criticized Kingibe’s knowledge and contributions, questioning what she had done as a legislator to improve the education and health sectors in the FCT.
“I overheard somebody on Arise TV this morning. Unfortunately, I hear the person is a member of the National Assembly and it is unfortunate I say so. With all due respect, what you don’t know, you don’t know, what you know, you know, and the good thing for you is to tell people you don’t when you don’t know, then people will educate you,” Wike stated.
He challenged Kingibe to run again in 2027, asserting that she would fail. He emphasized his confidence in his current role as FCT Minister and his lack of concern for gaining her approval.
Wike concluded by dismissing the need for Kingibe’s support and suggesting that her dissatisfaction would only grow as the administration continues to receive praise. “If you are angry that people are praising us, by next year your BP level will go very high because the praises you would see would be too much,” he remarked.
