Rivers State Governor Siminialayi Fubara has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has failed the state. He said Rivers is now relying on a mass movement based on truth and consistency rather than party politics.
Fubara made these remarks while receiving a delegation from the Senate Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation, led by Senator Orji Uzo Kalu, at the Government House in Port Harcourt. He asserted that the state would no longer be constrained by party affiliations but would stand firm to defend democracy.
“In our state today, we are no longer doing party politics. We are part of a movement, so you don’t blame me if I don’t align too much with the party. The party has failed us here. We are standing with our two feet on the soil of Rivers State to defend democracy,” Fubara stated.
A political conflict between Fubara and his estranged benefactor, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, has engulfed Rivers State. The crisis intensified after the collapse of a peace deal brokered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The governor expressed disappointment at his party’s silence on the issue.
