Portable has consistently, publicly acknowledged and appreciated
David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as one of his destiny helpers, hence his Inviting Portable over for dinner during his visit to America for a performance.
It’s no big deal to Davido, who generally appreciates all, in respective of their background or status, neither is it a big deal for Portable to express his intentions to win 10 Grammy in one night, neither is there anything wriong for Portable to seek Davido’s assistance in securing a record deal with Sony Music.
Drawing from his experience, Davido advised Portable to consider partnering with smaller labels for more lucrative opportunities. This is a brotherly advise, taking Portable’s level of musical career, altitude and character, level of education, exposure, mindset, into consideration. Obviously Davido knows that Portable needs a lot of brush up, hence directed him to where he can get proper cleansing to upgrade.
Instead of Portable to thank his helper once again, he decided to take him to the public square, using him to declare his intentions to the world. Hoping Sony Music he sought for might look in his direction, knowing fully well his post on the social media space will go viral, hence he decided to use Davido to step up.
What Portable fails to realise is that there are standards set by such giant recording labels like Sony Music. They are global record company with an image to protect. Portable outburst on Davido cannot make them pick an interest in him, not today or in the future. Being a super star comes with a lot, not what Portable displayed in his outburst against his helper, Davido.
Desperation and blackmail do not make one a global super star Davido, is a singer, songwriter and record producer, who has carved a niche for himself in the global music industry, aside being one of the youngest to hold one of the highest honour in Nigeria, Officer of the Order of the Niger, ( OON)
I hope that by the time Portable recognizes that he has shot himself on the foot by publicly criticizing Davido’s advice, accusing him of only associating with individuals who benefit him, will not be too late, because in the actual sense, Davido has never benefited anything from Portable, and will not come that close by asking him for anything.
Obviously, portable shoot himself on the foot, forgetting that opportunity and providence paved way for him, not that he was actually in the numbers or class.
