President Bola Tinubu has appointed retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Hashimu Argungu as the new Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC).
In addition to Argungu, Tinubu appointed Chief Onyemuche Nnamani as Secretary of the council and retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Taiwo Lakanu as a Member of the Commission.
According to a statement released on Monday by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, these appointments are pending Senate confirmation.
“President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd) as the Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC). He has also approved the appointment of Chief Onyemuche Nnamani as Secretary and DIG Taiwo Lakanu (Rtd) as a Member of the Commission. These appointments are subject to Senate confirmation. Other members of the Police Service Commission will be appointed in due course,” the statement read.
Additionally, Mr. Mohammed Sheidu has been appointed as Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), effective immediately.
“The President has also approved the appointment of Mr. Mohammed Sheidu as the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) with immediate effect. The President expects absolute integrity, diligence, and patriotic zeal in carrying out these important duties for the overall wellbeing of the Nigeria Police and the nation,” the statement added.
These appointments are part of President Tinubu’s broader efforts to reform and modernize the Nigeria Police Force into a professional and accountable institution.
