At least 19 persons died in a head-on collision involving A Toyota Hiace buses and a truck on Abuja -Okene express way on Sunday morning in Kogi.
Mr Samuel Oyedeji, Kogi Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander disclosed this to the Newsmen in Okene
The sector commander said that the incident, which he described as very unfortunate and saddened happened around 7.00 a.m. of Sunday..
According to him, the the two vehocles had head on collision just before Okene town, killing I9 persons including the drivers.
” The Toyota Hiace Bus was coming from Kano heading down South, while the Truck coming from Port Harcourt was heading to Obajana in Lokoja, Kogi State.
“The cause of the accident was dangerous overtaking and speed, which we have preaching against to motorists time without number.
“The unfortunate and saddened result of such disregard for road traffic rules and regulations is what we had this morning along Okene express way, ” he lamented.
Oyedeji commended his officers and men that carried out the rescue operation at the scene of the accident.
He said that the only serving passenger was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The sector commander urged motorists to avoid night journey, which most time leads to accident due to stress and sleep while on the steering.
