Troops on operation in Zamfara state have killed 12 terrorists and recovered many arms and ammunition.
The troops also destroyed the terrorists enclave during the operation that was conducted on Monday, April 15, in Maru Local Government Area.
The Director, Army Public Relations, Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, announced this in a statement on Tuesday, April 16.
Nwachukwu said the troops also recovered 10 motorbikes used for mobility by the terrorists, and 18 rustled cows.
He said the troops, while acting on “credible intelligence on the activities of the terrorists” conducted a “targeted clearance operation” to dismantle the terrorists’ operational base in Maru town.
“In a fierce gun battle with the terrorists, the gallant troops neutralized 12 of the terrorists, compelling the others to flee. The troops also recovered one AK-47 rifle, one magazine, 12 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, and two locally fabricated guns. The troops destroyed the terrorists’ base after dislodging them,” he said.

The army spokesperson said the operation was one of the significant breakthroughs in the counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations in the northwest.
He said: “The successful operation is a testament to the dedication of our troops in the fight against terrorism and insurgency.
“The Nigerian Army remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of our citizens and will continue to take decisive action to curb terrorists’ activities in the region.” The Nation.
