In a defining moment for the Igbo nation, the 2025 Ohanaeze presidential general election poses a crucial opportunity to uphold the tenets of democracy and honor the principles enshrined in the 2004 Ohanaeze Ndigbo Constitution. However, this monumental occasion is marred by a disturbing web of subversion and treachery that threatens to destabilize the essence of Igbo leadership and unity.
As we stand on the cusp of witnessing the historic emergence of a President General from Rivers State, in line with the constitutional provisions outlined in articles 4 and 11 of the 2004 Ohanaeze Ndigbo Constitution, a clandestine agenda seeks to distort the democratic process. This reprehensible scheme aims to manipulate the constitution, potentially elongating the tenure in Imo State by an additional three years or unfairly favoring Abia State, thereby infringing upon the constitutional rights of Rivers State and subverting the will of the Igbo people.
OHANAEZE NDIGBO, the esteemed apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, issues a resolute call to action to all Southeast Governors, Global Igbo leaders worldwide, affiliate groups, Igbo traditional rulers, Igbo religious leaders, and members of the global Igbo community. We must remain vigilant and resolute in the face of these malevolent forces seeking to thwart the democratic expression of the people.
The Secretary General of OHANAEZE NDIGBO, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, solemnly warns against the perils of falsehoods and deception orchestrated to undermine the indigenes of Rivers State. He emphasizes the vital role of Rivers State in the Igbo tapestry, urging a collective commitment to justice, transparency, and the restoration of Igbo cultural heritage.
The election of a President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo from Rivers State signifies a pivotal milestone in rekindling the spirit of Igbo unity and identity, transcending the post-Civil War fractures and revitalizing our rich cultural legacy. It is a beacon of hope for resolving generational identity challenges and fostering a renewed sense of brotherhood among all Igbo brethren.
In light of these grave threats to democracy and justice in Ohanaeze Ndigbo, we implore the Southeast Governors and all conscientious leaders to resist attempts to subvert the 2025 Ohanaeze election process. The denial of Rivers State’s rightful representation as Ohanaeze Ndigbo President General in January 2025 would not only perpetuate injustice but also jeopardize the collective aspirations of Ndigbo for Nigeria’s Presidency and national leadership prospects.
