Gunmen have abducted a General Overseer and one other pastor from their residence in the Adamawa State capital, Yola.

The General Overseer of the Freedom Power Chapel, Rev Mike Ochigbo, was abducted with another pastor of the church, John Moses, sources close to the victims said.

The sources said the two clerics were attacked at Rev Ochigbo’s residence in the Nyibango area of Yola and whisked away by the gunmen.

Adamawa Police spokesman SP Suleimam Nguroje, who confirmed the incident, said Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, has deployed operatives from relevant departments in the Command to comb all hideouts around the state to round up the abductors and free the victims.

“The police operatives will execute a tactical day and night operation on criminal hideouts and black spots around the state to rescue the victims,” Nguroje stressed.

Rev Ochigbo, who is the General Overseer of Freedom Power Chapel, was forcibly taken from his residence in Nyibango neighborhood in Yola, the state capital on Tuesday night.

On the N40 million ransom demand, the Church member who pleaded anonymity said the family was negotiating his release.

“It is really sad that ‘daddy’ was picked by these people. We’re praying and hoping they’ll release him to us unhurt,” she added.

In the same vein, the Adamawa State Police Command, which confirmed the kidnapping of the two clerics, has appealed for calm and assured that the two men would be rescued, according to its spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje.
