Arsenal overcame more officiating frustrations at Leicester to eke out a narrow win which keeps them five points clear at the top of the table.
After a strong start from Arsenal, they appeared to have got the goal their play deserved through Leandro Trossard as he emphatically thumped into the top corner from the edge of the area when the Foxes failed to clear a corner.
However, the goal was disallowed following a VAR check for an apparent foul by Ben White on goalkeeper Danny Ward – a decision which appeared generous and Arsenal’s frustrations with the officiating only increased moments later when Bukayo Saka’s penalty appeals were waved away.
But moments after half-time, after four scoreless starts to each afternoon kick-off, the Gunners channeled their frustrations in the best possible way with the first goal of the day when Gabriel Martinelli found the bottom corner.
A second almost followed when Saka hit the back of the net after good build-up play but again, VAR intervened to rule it out for offside and although the insurance strike never arrived, the win is enough to keep Arsenal five in front of Manchester City ahead of their clash with Bournemouth.
