Over 100 new members of staff from the Registry and Bursary Departments of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja have been selected to attend a three-day workshop on effective record-keeping and ethics in order to enhance their productivity on the job.
The three-day workshop with the theme “New Work Ethics, Office Practice in Tertiary Institutions, and Effective Records Management” commenced on Monday, February 20th, 2023, at Queen Aminat Hall of Saatof Hotels, Lokoja.
The workshop was organized by the Kogi State Branch of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) in collaboration with Mosobalaje Ademola and Co. It aims to expose new staff to professional ethics and its components.
Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman, the Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, who declared the workshop open, said the training became necessary for new staff to re-jiggle ideas and interrogate issues that will improve productivity and job enhancement.
Dr. Usman charged the selected participants to make good use of the workshop, noting that it would help them to add more positive values to the Polytechnic and boost their capacity and competence.
While commending the facilitators and resource persons for making themselves available to impact others, the Rector reassured the gathering of the management’s continued commitment to train and retrain staff to make effective use of the modern facilities at the institution.
Mr. Dotun Akinyemi Fadahunsi delivered the opening day paper on the topic “Professional Ethics and Work/Office Etiquette.”
He asserted that honesty, trustworthiness, transparency, accountability, confidentiality, respect, obedience to the law, and loyalty are key components of professional ethics required by all.
Mr. Fadahunsi advised participants to imbibe strong work values and stressed the need for all to maintain office etiquette, which includes being punctual, paying attention to details, communicating with class, shunning gossip and open criticism, being courteous, and keeping to time.
The second day of the workshop will centre on Office Practice for Registry and Bursary Staff, while the final day will focus on two fronts: Basic Human Resources Issues, Administrative Procedures, and Effective Records Management in the Registry; and Basic Accounting Procedure in Tertiary Institutions and Effective Records Management in the Bursary Department.
