From Joseph Amedu, Lokoja
The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the kidnapping of a businessman and owner of Always Petroleum, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, in Okene.
The Command’s Spokesman, SP William Aya told our Correspondent on Sunday in Lokoja that Idris was whisked away by the kidnappers despite spirited efforts by neighbours to resist the abduction.
Aya disclosed that the latest development is the second time in less than two years the businessman would be kidnapped by gunmen.
He was kidnapped in 2019 and only regained his short-lived freedom before Saturday’s incident.
A family source, who craved anonymity, had earlier told our correspondent that gunmen with sophisticated weapons stormed the businessman’s residence and whisked him away to an unknown destination.
The family source said the kidnappers beat and tied Idris before taking him away.
Idris is the chairman of the North-Central Table Tennis Association.
Aya said he had no information as to whether any contact had been made to the family but said that efforts had begun to rescue him.
