Manchester City edged past Atletico Madrid in their Champions League quarter-final as a 0-0 draw descended into chaos.
The Premier League champions were forced to deal with their hosts’ infamous dark arts throughout and clung onto their 1-0 aggregate lead from the first leg.
Atletico were up to their usual tricks
But the talking point of the match will no doubt be a mass brawl in the dying moments as Diego Simeone and his men lost their rag.
Felipe was given a second yellow card for a nasty challenge on Phil Foden and Stefan Savic sparked an altercation between both players by trying to drag the Man City forward off the pitch.
Even the substitutes were involved, including Jack Grealish, and the England man had his hair pulled in a clash with Savic – who escaped with a yellow card.
Simeone sarcastically clapped and received a booking of his own as more than ten minutes of injury time were spent with both teams kicking lumps out of each other.
And even with ten men, Atletico had chances to level the tie, spurning a number of glorious opportunities.
Pep Guardiola’s side bossed possession in the first-half, but lost control in the second and, in the end, had to scrape past the Spanish side.
Simeone appeared to feel hard-done-by during the closing stages and rallied the crowd against his opponents
Adrian Durham said on talkSPORT: “We thought we were covering a football match but it turned into UFC.”
Tony Cascarino added: “This wasn’t a game of football.
“Savic’s reaction is unbelievable. I can’t see how he’s only going to get a yellow card.
“No sympathy with Felipe at all. He could’ve easily had two yellows in the first half.
“He’s been at this referee all game and he’s still at him now.
“Savic literally tries to pick Foden up off the floor, I can’t believe what I’ve just witnessed there.”
