Manchester United have seen off their bitter rivals Leeds United with a 4-2 victory away at Elland Road.
Leeds started the match well with the crowd right behind them, but Manchester United started to build momentum, with their first chance coming when Paul Pogba set up Cristiano Ronaldo for a tap-in but the Portuguese failed to convert.
Ralf Rangnick’s side did open the scoring on 34 minutes when Harry Maguire jumped highest to nod home Luke Shaw’s corner for his first goal of the season and his team’s first from a corner this campaign.
Jadon Sancho then put in an inch-perfect cross for Bruno Fernandes to score a header and double his side’s lead just seconds before the half-time whistle.
It looked like Leeds had a mountain to climb in the second period but they pulled one back less than ten minutes after the restart when Rodrigo’s cross evaded everyone, including United goalkeeper David De Gea to fly into the top corner.
Incredibly, just a minute later, Leeds were level when ex-United man Daniel James squared for half-time substitute Raphinha to pull his side level.
Fred came on to replace Paul Pogba as the Red Devils looked for a winner, and the Brazilian scored his side’s third when he was played in by Jadon Sancho before firing into the back of the net.
A lovely flick over Pascal Struijk from Fernandes played in Anthony Elanga to score the Old Trafford side’s fourth goal and wrap up the points.
This victory now leaves Manchester United on 46 points in fourth place, four ahead of West Ham in fifth, while Leeds sit fifteenth on 23 points.
