The Pro-Chancellor/Chairman in Council of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, Professor Ibrahim Abdu-Aguye, has called for the restoration of MBBS programme at Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba.
The Pro-Chancellor made the call in an address he delivered during the 6th Convocation ceremony for award of higher degrees to the Post-graduate graduands of the institution over the weekend.
The Pro-Chancellor who lamented that since the Medical College of the University was denied accreditation years ago by the National Universities Commission (NUC), no concrete efforts to return the programme.
Professor Abdu-Aguye therefore, called on both the Kogi state government and the University management to redouble their efforts in ensuring the provision of needed facilities that will enable the NUC grant full accreditation of the medical course.
He stressed that the value of a Medical College in any University is enormous hence the need for all authorities concerned to ensure that the MBBS programme bounced back to Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba.
The Pro-Chancellor described the state government’s efforts towards the establishment of a Teaching Hospital as a step in the right direction capable of fastracking the revival of the Medical Programme in the University.
In her own speech, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Marietu Ohunene Tenuche disclosed that out of the 1,016 Post-graduate graduands, 138 bagged PHD, 556 got their Masters and 97 Post-graduate Diplomas.
The VC who reiterated her commitment to the welfare of staff and students of the institution, said that within her one year in office, 17 new professors and 15 new readers got their promotions.
High point of the ceremony was the Award of Honorary Doctorate Degrees to Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state and Visitor to the University as well as the Senator Representing Kogi East, Alhaji Jibril Isah and an Industrialist from Katsina state, Alhaji Dahiru Barau Mangal.
The Award is in recognition of their contributions to their immediate society and track record of services.
