Super Eagles attacker, Alex Iwobi, has broken silence days after Nigeria crashed out of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Nigeria emerged as one of the tournament’s favourites after claiming maximum points in Group D but failed to soar on Sunday and were eliminated by the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia.
Iwobi was sent off for a clumsy challenge on an opponent after only a few minutes on the pitch.
Although the referee’s decision could be deemed harsh, he was shown the red card after the official was forced to review the incident through the pitchside monitor.
Speaking for the first time on Tuesday, Iwobi remained positive that the Super Eagles will bounce back.
“Moments of joy can quickly turn into pain and anguish. As much as it’s a part of football, we came for more.
“Our fans who shared these moments with us both in Cameroon and across the world deserved more!
“The beauty of the game is the next moment of jubilation is never too far around the corner. We will be back to fight for our nation, stronger.
“We owe it to you, and I owe it to myself. Thank you for all the words of support & encouragement – it doesn’t go unnoticed,” he wrote on Instagram.
Meanwhile, Nigeria has been drawn against the Black Stars of Ghana in the playoff for a spot in the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
However, Iwobi may not take part in the two-legged affair following the straight red card he received against Tunisia.
