The vice chairman of Ifako – Ijaiye Local Government Area, Lagos, and chairmanship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the same LGA in the forthcoming Local Council election in the state, Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat (UAH), was given a National Distinguished Award of Excellence, by the Nigerian Youth Congress, NYC, in Abuja.
Prince Usman received the award at the National Democratic Day Leacture and Institutional honours event on Thursday, June 24, 2021, in Abuja. The event, which was organized by the NYC, attracted dignitaries from across the nation.
Among them were, Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, Hon. James Faleke, a member of the House of Representatives, who represented APC National leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the minister of state for Education, Hon. Chukwemeka Nwajuba.
Speaking at the event, NYC President, Blessing Akinlosotu, noted that Prince Usman was singled out for the honour out of hundreds of elected Local Government officials in the country due to his numerous grassroot development strides in Ifako – Ijaiye LGA and the South-West Region of Nigeria.
Blessing mentioned the #Waka2Cure, One – Month Free Medical Rehabilitation Programme for people living with Arthritis, Stroke, Pains and Cerebral Palsy which was a multimillion naira humanitarian project sponsored by Prince Usman with more than 1,000 beneficiaries from States across the South-West Region of Nigeria, as one of their criteria for the award.
He observed that, “Classic and international standard of medical solutions were provided with lots of positive testimonies after the treatment process of the medical outreach programme. This is the first of its kind in South-West Nigeria, hosted in Ifako-Ijaiye LGA and sponsored by this young man, Prince Usman”
Prince Usman, who also doubles as the Secretary, Association of Local Government Vice-Chairmen in South-West Nigeria, is the first Local Government elected official to be given such award in the country. It will also be recalled that Prince Usman was recently awarded the “Ifako-Ijaiye Personality of the Year” at the Lagos Mega Youth Festival, due to his numerous grassroot developmental initiatives and other People – oriented projects.
