The Business Manager of Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), Ika Branch, Mr Amos Bamboye, has hinted that every household in Delta State will be provided with prepaid meter for free.
Bamboye, an engineer, made this known on Monday during an interview with newsmen at Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of the State.
He said, “We have good news for Ika people, because the federal government has approved the distribution of free prepaid metres to every household in the nation including Delta State”.
While urging residents of Ika nation to cooperate with the BEDC, he noted that the installation was currently ongoing and would be supervised by men of Latex Electrical Contractors Association of Nigeria (LECAN), Ika Chapter.
“However, residents are to pay for the cables used for the installation. Government only provided the meters, while the people are expected to pay for the cables.
“Even if you don’ts have money to pay for the installation cable, the fee will be deducted from the account via metre,” he added.
Continuing, he enjoined those that were yet to clear their bills to do so, adding that every outstanding bill would be transferred into their prepaid meter.
The manager pointed out that the metres would be released in badges until every household was captured.
In his remarks, the Chairman, of Latex Electrical Contractors Association of Nigeria (LECAN), Ika Chapter, Chief Simon Isiza, commended the federal government for providing the prepaid metres to Nigerians, describing the gesture as right and positive step that would curb economic waste.
He explained that the cables had different colours, saying, “Delta State is using the Green Color, Edo State Blue, Ondo State Red and so on”.
Isiza therefore advised Ika residents to desist from any thing that might cause delay and hindrance to the delivery of the work.
