Nigerians in diaspora under the aeges of the Global Coalition for
Security and Democracy in Nigeria operated by the Nelson M46664 Human
Rights Association of Hungary have uged Nigerians to declare a
revolution without ammunition in Nigeria to protest the spate of
insecurity and killings in the country.
The group, which is currently, based in Budapest, Hungary, decried the
continuing killings and insecurity in Nigeria, saying that it is
absolutely unacceptable that a government should look the other way
while innocent Nigerians are being killed by the day.
A statement by the global coordinator of the group, Mr. Frederick
Odorige, said “from 1st May, all Nigerians should stay away from
work places and embark on daily street protests,” because of the
killings , adding also that “ it will be foolish to celebrate Workers
Day when your take home pay cannot take you home.”
The statement, however, advised that the protest should be peaceful
and non-violent while “all shops, transportation, offices, and
business places should be closed as from 1st May 2019.”
Odorige went further to state that the national motto of Nigeria has
failed due to bad governance because there is currently no unity, no
faith in country, no peace and sadly, no progress.
“Section 14 subsection 2b of the Nigerian Constitution (As amended)
states that the welfare and security of the citizens shall be the
primary purpose of the government. Any government that fails in
providing either security or welfare has failed completely.
Today our government, past and present have failed to provide the two
basic objectives of welfare and security to Nigerians. “It is no
longer news that our country Nigeria has never been this bad. Whoever
denies this is either the cause of the problem or the problems itself.
Whoever denies this is either profitting from government or aspiring
to get appointed into office,” Odorige said.
“Buhari worsened our problem as a people by appointing himself
Petroluem Minister. According to Ibe Kachiuku Minister of State for
Petroleum and Shetima Bana acting Chairman of the Revenue,
Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Nigeria has lost
60billion dollars from petroleum revenue under Buhari.
That loss is just from one section of NNPC revenue loss. At the rate
of N360 to a dollar, 60billion dollars is 21.6trillion naira. That
could finance our national budget for almost three years without
borrowing. That amount is the national budget of Rwanda for 25 years.
It is the national budget of Uganda for seven years. It can
comfortably take care of the budget of Ghana for five years where they
have steady electricity. 60billion dollars is the national budget of
Tanzania for five solid years.
Where is the money? Now this government is set to borrow 8.8 trillion
naira to fund the 2019 budget and you want to increase VAT so that
Nigerian workers will fund their minimum wage. Then they will increase
the price of fuel very soon. The poor masses always pay for the loot
and mismanagement of Nigerian politicians.
He stated that the 13.2 million Nigerian children on the street is
equivalent to the population of nine European countries of Ireland,
Slovenia, Luxembourg, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Iceland, Malta and
Cyprus. Children that are abaondoned and used by politicians every
four years as under-aged voters.
The following demands have been made by the coalition.
(1) That Retired General Muhammadu Buhari must resign from office as
the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
(2) That Retired General Muhammadu Buhari must not be sworn in and
recognized as the President of Nigeria. He cannot militarize our
elections, kill our compatriots and expect to ride to power with the
blood of Nigerians for us to call him Excellency. NO!!
(3) Urgently ammend the very faulty Nigerian constitution.
(4) Senators and members of the House of Representatives must receive
salaries according to the laws of the federal republic of Nigeria.
Those that received wages against the law under the Revenue,
Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission must refund them back
to our national treasury.
(5) We the people say NO! to borrowing for the financing of our budget
since the rulers also steal what they borrow.
(6) The full list of Nigerians killed before, during and after the
2019 elections must be published . They are us.
(7) Restructure Nigeria now and apply the recommendations of the 2014
national conference.
(8) Government must respect the rule of law by releasing Nigerians in
detention as ordered by our court. Persons such as Sambo Dasuki, El-
Zakzaky and others must be released. Those found guilty by the court
should be made to face the law.
(9) Unban IPOB as a terrorist group.
(10) Declare the murderous herdsmen as a terrorist group. This
pretence is chocking us.
(11)End all forms of pension for ex-governors and their deputies. They
came to serve and not to be state liabilities for life. They cannot be
state liabilities for life after looting their respective states. They
should return to their professions.
(12) Muhammadu Buhari must publish what he spent from public treasury
for 117 days for medical care in the United Kingdom. It is public
money. Finally,
(13) Government must immediately put an end to security votes to state
governors and other government officials. Security vote is not in the
Nigerian constitution. Governors steal this money, protect themselves
and their families and expose the rest of us to the killing by
herdsmen and Boko haram. Use security votes to expand and empower our
security agencies.
Odorige said the coalition is not affiliated with any political party
and he called on Nigerians from the North, South, East, West, IPOB,
Oduduwa, Middle beltan, Arewa, Niger Delta, Christian, Muslim, Jew,
Buddhist, pagan, traditionalist, Musicians, Nollywood, Nigerian Labour
Congress, Nigeria Bar Association, Trade Union Council, National
Association of Nigerian Students, Market men and women, artisans,
social , professional or cultural group, to rise up and prevent
Nigeria from sliding into a Venezuela because Nigeria is sinking fast.
He congratulated the soldiers of Sudan and Algeria for supporting
their citizens to shout NO!! He hailed them as patriotic and gallant
soldiers who refused to be bribed or intimidated so that their country
could be free from poverty and oppression.
The Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria currently
operate in 40 countries and states in Nigeria with the hashtag NO!!
