Real Madrid dumps Mbappe to sign ex-Liverpool forward

The European transfer window is yet to close and it could bring about a big deal for one ex-Liverpool player. Real Madrid are set to switch their sights to Celta Vigo striker Iago Aspas to bolster their forwards line before the transfer deadline.

Real have a Cristiano Ronaldo sized hole in their strike force this season. They were hoping to fill that gap with Kylian Mbappe. The boyhood Madridista is currently at PSG and a stellar World Cup in Russia has made him the hottest prospect in football.

Mbappe would prove to expensive. The French side do not want to let one of their stars go to a Champions League rival and they sure don’t need the money!

So in a surprising turn they are looking at an ex-Liverpool player that is 31-years-old. Those who don’t follow La Liga maybe shocked to hear that Iago Aspas could be considered as a Ronaldo replacement.

His only season at Anfield contained just 15 appearances and 1 goal. He was brought in to rotate and cover for Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez. However the rise of Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho in the 2013/14 season limited his opportunities.

After a loan spell at Sevilla he was sold back to his former club Celta Vigo. His record in his two spells there is incredible. The first time round he scored 50 goals in 153 appearances; a decent total in a top league.

But his second spell has been phenomenal; 67 goals in just 126 outings. That is scoring at an elite level.

Aspas will always be synonymous with one of the worst days in recent Liverpool history when Brendan Rodger’s side lost to Chelsea when they needed to win to almost guarantee the league title. His atrocious corner – straight to a Chelsea player – late in the game has become famous among the fanbase.

Liverpool themselves once again have Champions League ambitions and will be happy to see the team that beat them in the final move for a figure of fun from our past.
