A group commited to national career development and empowerment for young Nigerians, the Career and Youth Development Initiative (CYDI), has endorsed Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State for a second term in office, describing him as a promise keeper.
The group at a media briefing by its Director-General, Pharm. Henry Ejiofor Asogwa in Abuja on Sunday noted that the Governor has shown commitment to job creation and poverty alleviation programmes, leading to increased economic activities in the state in the last three years.
He said, “The Enugu State Government under the administration of Governor Ugwuanyi has in no small measure demonstrated that wealth creation, poverty eradication, employment generation, and sustainable economic growth and development are achieveable.
“Through guided entrepreneurship programmes, provision of soft loans in partnership with Micro Finance Banks (MFBs) as well as targeted capacity building, particularly for micro, small and medium enterprises, the government in three years has proven its commitment to the stimulation of economic activities in Enugu State.
“This is in keeping with his administration’s commitment to embark on programmes that would develop and empower youths with entrepreneurial skills for wealth creation and self-sufficiency.
“Governor Ugwuanyi administration has demonstrated that with conscious and continuous empowerment of youths in the country, it will engender development and wealth creation.
“Today, the drive by the government of Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to ensure the acquisition and deployment of requisite entrepreneurial skills by the youth to manage their own businesses is paying off.
“The state government under the current administration has also increased economic prosperity of the people by opening up rural communities with good network of new roads.
“These we have seen so far in Enugu State. And beyond them, Governor Ugwuanyi, as a promise keeper, has shown uncommon commitment to the welfare of workers in the state with prompt payment of workers’ salaries and allowances.
“Just recently, in line with the approval by the Enugu State Executive Council for the engagement of 1,000 youths to clean up the state under the “Enugu Clean Team Project”, interested candidates between the age bracket of 18 to 35 were called to submit their application for employment in the state.
“Even in recession, Governor Ugwuanyi is not only employing young people but have also never failed to pay salaries but instead paid the much celebrated thirteenth month salary last December.
“As a nongovernmental organization committed to career and youth development, CYDI cannot but endorse such administration to continue to offer good governance to the people of Enugu State after next year’s general elections.
“We therefore urge the good people of Enugu State to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voters’ Registration exercise to troop out in their numbers to register and return the people’s Governor to office in 2019 to finish the good work he has started”, the group said.
