The Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria CBCN says the goodwill which President Muhammadu Buhari enjoyed when he assumed office in 2015 has fast depleted due to failure in certain aspects of Governance.
The Bishops have also drawn the attention of the President to what they call too much suffering in the country occasioned by poverty, hunger, insecurity, violence and fear.
Leading a highpowered delegation of the Conference of Bishops on a courtesy Visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock villa on Thursday, President of CBCN and the ArchBishop of Jos Most Reverend Ignatius Kaigama told the President that Nigeria appears to be under siege as many negative forces seem to be keeping a stranglehold on the population, especially the weaker and defenceless ones.
Kaigama who decried what he described as the lopsidedness in the distribution of appointments under the current administration said disregard for the Federal Character Principle and imbalance in the distribution of federal amenities have created the loss of a sense of belonging in many parts of the country, hence the constant cries of marginalization, agitation for secession and calls for restructuring.
He recommended a quick solution to the current problems in order to ensure Peace, stability and progress of the country.
The Bishops assured the President that the Church will continue to make its contribution to nation-building through prayers, admonitions and assistance to needy.
