The Centre for Management Development(CMD) has trained over forty thousand staff sent to it by the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, in line with its mandate as a veritable manpower development agency of government.
Also, it has announced that 400 staff of the agency have been promoted as a way of motivating them within the eight years of the current management led by the outgoing Director General, Dr. Kabir K. Usman.
Director General of the CMD, Dr. Kabir Kabo Usman dropped the hint in his valedictory remarks and interactive session with newsmen and staff held in Abuja.
The outgoing chief Executive who has worked with three Presidents, three Vice- Presidents, Five Ministers, six Permanent Secretaries and over 20 Directors and some in acting capacity noted that over five hundred (500) management training firms and over three thousand (3000) management consultants have been accredited in line with its accreditation programmes.
He said as part of efforts to get Management Training Firms and Management Consultants into its accreditation net, the Centre for Management Development(CMD) has begun electronic accreditation(e-accreditation) as the clampdown on illegal management training institutions and management Consultants gathers momentum.
“All management consultants operating in Nigeria must be accredited and if they are not accredited by CMD, then they are operating illegally”, he said.
Reeling part of his achievement within the eight years, Dr. Usman also noted that he bought a befitting office in Abuja at N250 million which currently worth N1.3 billion, adding that the agency regained the corporate headquarters land at the Central Business District(CBD) worth N1.5 billion and has set up the Public Private Partnership(PPP) process to build it.
He said that the agency has conducted skill audit and analysis for all staff, apart from tackling the lingering issue of CMD and National Centre for Economic Management and Administration(NCEMA) after the merger of the two agencies.
He said the CMD works together with the International Standard of Americas and the ones in Europe to make sure that we are delivering training in the standard that is required.
“We have also done quite a lot in terms of accreditation and issues about quality assurance, issues about impact assessment and I really want to emphasize that this is a very important activity to us because some management consultants moving around with briefcase are not doing what they are supposed to do in terms of providing quality training. Some are compromised, but we have ensured that this is not the case. We gave the Carrot and not the Stick to support training agencies with benchmarks, with guidelines, with rules and regulations so that they can operate in a very ethical manner”, he said.
He also noted that management training firms and consultants will no longer have any training programmes approved by the federal government unless such organizations or consultants are duly accredited by the CMD.
