Youths of the communities in the four local government areas of Anambra State registered as Oil sites by an oil refinery firm in the state, Orient Petroleum Resources Nigeria Plc, with head office along Enugu/Onitsha expressway, Awka, have demanded for compensation, royalty, employment and scholarship from the oil refinery company.
The youths made the demand through their legal consultant, Hon. Justice Peter A.C. Obidigwe, former Chief Judge of the State and Chinedum and Sons Engineering Company Nigeria Ltd, involved in registration of communities with oil deposits in the state, Chief Godwin Anachuna Ajie, a life patron of Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ).
The four local government areas include, Ogbaru, Ayamelum, Anambra East and West.
They pleaded to the Federal Government to prevail on the refinery firm to meet the demand.
In the words of Chief Anachuna, ‘I am urging the federal government to order the Orient Petroleum Resources Nigeria Plc, to award scholarship, employment, loyalty and compensation to youths of the communities of the four registered oil deposit sites.
This will enable them to benefit as future hopeful of their various communities and beyond, thereby curtailing the unemployment problem now ravaging the country.
He expressed satisfaction with the role being played by the refinery firm in the employment of indigenes as part of its labour force.
