Dissatisfied with the way President Mohammadu Buhari is fighting corruption war, the Idemili branch of Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Anambra State, yesterday accused Mr. President of being biased.
Making the accusation shortly after rising from the branch general meeting held within the court premises, Ogidi, its Chairman, Barr. Samuel Olisaemeka Chukwukelu said, “there is corruption everywhere not only in the judiciary, the entire system is corrupt and that is why I am fully in support of fighting corruption but my advice is that it should be fought holistically, general”.
“It should not be lopsided, I know and still stand to defend it that the corruption Mr. President is talking about is lopsided”, he stated.
“If he wants to fight corruption, he should start from the beginning, he should not decide where to start or where not to start but face it as it is and not when his brother is involve in certain corrupt practices, he will close his eyes and when another person’s brother is involve he will be pursued”, Chukwukelu posited.
The NBA boss who vowed to complete the construction of the bar centre and ensured professionalism in the bar so that lawyers will not be relegated to the backgrounds, reiterated that Mr. President should not choose whom to fight and whom not to fight”.
Also on Governor Willie Obiano’s performance he stated that, “by my own assessment he has done well especially in the areas of security and agriculture. He must not be good in all ramifications, the little he has stayed (two years) he has shown he is capable.
Unfortunately, the people surrounding him, his aides and commissioners, most of them are corrupt and do not allow him to see reality, to know the yearnings of the people and that is the area which if I have the opportunity to talk to him, I will because he believes entirely on what they tell him and as such he unknowingly will be offending the masses”.
According to Barr. Chukwukelu, ”he should sometimes go outside to seek information on whet is on the ground like in Nkpor the few sit-tight persons, not more than two, have been in the town union leadership going to nine years now”.
“The Igwe and the community have been crying foul of the issue but the governor has not shown any interest. I know that a lot of his aides may have been feeding him wrongly
This is a community where a ten-man caretaker committee was setup to manage and conduct election within three months but it has stayed for about nine years without conducting to elect the executive of the town union”.
