The governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress(APC) in Saturday Governorship election in Kogi State, Prince Abubakar Audu has been confirmed dead. He was reportedly died from food poisoning, sources have said.
Audu, who led in the election that has been declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was said to have complained of stomach ache on Saturday shortly after voting and returning to his country home in Ogbonicha, Ofu Local government.
“He started complaining after he took his breakfast on Saturday,” one of his aides said, continuing: “He didn’t think it was anything serious, and everybody thought it would have been a result of stress and exhaustion following the rigours of the campaign.He was thereafter was advised to take a rest.”
The aide who spoke on the condition of anonymity, did not say whether he sought medical help before his death.
Though some said he had died as early as 10am the following Sunday but other source said he slumped and died after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared the result of the election inconclusive.
One of his aides, Tenimu Nasidi said being a Muslim they have taken his death in good faith as they strongly believed that God gives and God takes, “To me I believed that his time was up; nothing any man can do to stop it”.
Audu was born on October 24, 1964.
The Kogi State Government has declared seven days of mourning for the late politician.
He is to be buried on Monday morning.
