Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere has challenged the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria to work in synergy with other stakeholders to address the issue of incessant building collapse.
The number two citizen of Imo State, Prince Madumere stated this while receiving the executive members of the body, when they paid a courtesy visit to him at the Government House, Owerri.
Prince Madumere recalled countless incidences of building collapse in the Nation, which has caused a lot wreaked havoc and loss of lives, which he said has brought so much grief and untold hardship to many.
He however attributed the unfortunate incidences to either engagement of quacks or no- supervision by experts, which he said if not checked will bring about uncertainty of life and monumental economic waste.
He averred that Imo State Government under the leadership of Owelle Rochas Okorocha attaches great importance to the body, which has demonstrated competence in the discharge of their professional responsibilities in the Ministry of Works.
Prince Madumere stressed the need for the continuation of such mutually rewarding relationship between the body and the State, especially for their inputs in the major projects so as to maintain the required standards.
While thanking the body for the visit, he urged the body to liaise with the Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA) to ensure that all major projects are certified.
Speaking earlier, the President of South East Geopolitical zone of COREN, Engr. Uche Ukpabi while thanking the deputy Governor of Imo State for his warmth reception, stated that the responsibility of the body is to control and regulate the practice of Engineering to ensure that the established principles and procedures are observed.
He however, sought the partnership of the State government to continually engage the services of the body by the State in her major contracts to avoid failure of such projects as he promised the body’s best input in their partnership.
