Imo government has called for a greater partnership with National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency with a view to achieving it’s set goal of achieving environmentally haven for the residents, visitors and tourists.
Speaking during an official visit to the headquarters of the NESREA, Imo Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere congratulated the new Director General, Dr. Lawrence Anukam describing his appointment as well – deserved.
Speaking further to Director General of the Agency and other Directors, he said the State would appreciate greater partnership with the Agency in the area of waste management and conversion for other economically viable purposes.
The number two citizen of Imo State added that with the effort Owelle Rochas Okorocha led government has made in the area of hospitality, there is need for a commensurate effort at making the environment friendly for visitors, tourists and investors.
He also relayed the effort of the government at achieving that with the launching of “Imo My Pride”. He added that monthly sanitation exercise has also been re – launched.
He therefore called on the Agency to partner with Imo State government especially in the technical areas that require a special training to administer.
Acknowledging the challenges of the Agency with office accommodation in Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere promised that the government will do all it can to address that without delay.
Welcoming the Deputy Governor of Imo State, the Director General of the Agency, Dr. Lawrence Anukam congratulated Imo Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere and Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha for their victory in the last Gubernatorial polls.
He however told the Deputy Governor of their readiness to partner with the State government to achieve her plans to give Imo State the pride of place it used to be under late Sam Mbakwe administration.
He assured Prince Madumere of the Agency’s readiness to roll out modern means of managing waste and keeping the State clean while keeping its inhabitants healthy if principles are followed.
Speaking further, he said Owerri is the zonal headquarters of NESREA and therefore pledge their poise to make Imo a model State. He averred that there are 28 environmental regulations, which 5 of them have been fully gazetted.
Mr. Anukam explained that the Agency is about going into the area of running checks on vehicular emissions to reduce the high level of pollution in the environment.
He therefore assured the Deputy Governor of Imo State that the Agency will be glad to train the Personnel of Imo State Environmental Agency to ensure the government hits it’s target of an enviable clean and healthy Imo State.
The highpoint of the event was the decoration of Imo State Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere who was said to Environmental friendly and the first Deputy Governor to visit the NESREA headquarters with the badge of the Agency.
