  • APC denies role in Edo incident, says ADC is ‘its own nemesis’ By Ayo Ayodele The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly denied allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) linking it to a reported shooting incident involving ADC members in Edo State, describing the opposition party as “its own nemesis.” In a statement issued Thursday in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC dismissed as “delusional” the ADC’s claim that the ruling party was responsible for the incident, which the ADC raised in a February 25 press statement. The APC accused the ADC of rushing to judgment without allowing security agencies to conduct investigations, saying the opposition party had appointed itself “accuser, investigator, prosecutor and judge” in the matter. While condemning violence in the political space, the APC called on the police and other law enforcement authorities to carry out a thorough and expeditious investigation into the Edo shooting and bring those responsible to justice. The ruling party further urged investigators to scrutinize the ADC’s internal affairs, alleging that the party is plagued by factional leadership tussles and internal clashes. It claimed that reports of confrontations among ADC leaders over control of party structures should form part of the probe. The APC maintained that it had “absolutely no role or responsibility” in the incident, stressing that it remains focused on governance and recent electoral victories. The party cited what it described as major wins in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) municipal elections as well as constituency elections in Rivers and Kano states, expressing gratitude to voters for their support. It also reaffirmed confidence in the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, stating that the administration remains committed to building a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria. The APC concluded by urging political actors to avoid inflammatory accusations and allow due process to take its course.

  • Tinubu decorates Disu Acting IGP, urges him to restore peace nationwide By Ayo Ayodele President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday charged the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to restore peace and strengthen security across the country, assuring him of full presidential backing. Speaking at the State House during the decoration ceremony of Disu as Acting Inspector-General of Police, the President said the appointment came at a critical time for the nation’s security architecture. Disu’s appointment follows the retirement of Kayode Egbetokun and is subject to ratification by the Nigeria Police Council and confirmation by the Senate. “I made this decision for you to assume this responsibility. I know your record. I saw the dedication you exhibited while you were in Lagos when I was governor,” Tinubu said. He urged the Acting IGP to rebuild public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force and to work closely with other security agencies to safeguard lives and property. “Lead firmly but fairly, demand professionalism at every level and ensure that the safety of lives and property remains our highest priority. It’s a daunting challenge. I know you can do it. You have my word, you have my full support,” the President added. Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria continues to grapple with banditry, terrorism, and other criminal activities, noting that Disu would play a key role in developing innovative strategies to tackle these threats. He also tasked him with advancing the security pillars of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The President expressed confidence in Disu’s discipline, operational experience, and leadership capacity, stating that committed leadership would see the country overcome its security challenges. Tinubu also paid tribute to the outgoing IGP, Egbetokun, who attended the ceremony with his spouse, describing him as a dedicated officer who served the nation diligently. “To the outgoing Inspector-General, we are a grateful nation. Nigeria appreciates your contribution to maintaining law and order,” he said, urging him to offer guidance to his successor. “You have not succeeded without a good successor. His success will also be part of your legacy,” Tinubu stated. The ceremony was attended by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori; retired Assistant Inspector-General Hakeem Odumosu; senior government officials; and members of Disu’s family. The Nigeria Police Council is expected to meet next week to deliberate on the appointment.
