Notorious robber who can’t be deported commits ANOTHER crime just months after release
A ROBBER who cannot be deported from Britain has turned back to crime – just months after being released from prison.
Giwa was released from prison last year
In November Joland Giwa stole £600 from a betting shop in Newport after assaulting a cashier.
The 26-year-old, a notorious former gang leader, was released from prison last January after a series of robberies and thefts.
However, attempts to deport him failed – due to confusion over his nationality.
The Home Office believes that Giwa is from Nigeria, but Nigerian authorities have refused this claim.
Giwa, who arrived in Britain in 1999 with no documentation, claims to be from Sierra Leone.
Giwa has pleaded guilty to one count of robbery
It seems anyone can stop themselves from being deported on any spurious ground
Peter Bone
After his release he was given a fresh start in Wales – and vowed to change his ways.
But yesterday Giwa pleaded guilty to one count of robbery.
He will be sentenced at a later date.
Tory MP Peter Bone said: “It seems anyone can stop themselves from being deported on any spurious ground.
If we cannot find out where they are from we should lock them up for a very long time to keep our streets safe and discourage other people.”
