NIGERIAN STAR Emmanuel Emenike stormed off the field amid boos and alleged racial abuse from his own fans during Fenerbahce’s clash with rivals Besiktas on March 22..
The striker was the target of boos from home fans following his inability to capitalise on a one-on-one opportunity after a poor first touch.
Emenike then removed his shirt storming towards the touchline in an attempt to leave the field but was prevented from doing so by Fenerbache coaching staff, who pushed him back onto the field.
This season has been a difficult one for the Super Eagle, after just four goals in 22 appearances in what is currently a difficult spell for the twenty seven year old.
Fellow African striker and team-mate Moussa Sow, by way of contrast, enjoyed a decisive contribution to the match, scoring the late winner for Fenerbahce against their Istanbul rivals.
After the match Senegal striker Sow explained the importance of the fans needing to support Emenike: “Our fans should support him. We need to him for the title. This season has been tough for Emenike. He would like to contribute to the team.”
