NIGERIA: HEAR WHAT SHALL BEFALL THEE IN THE DAYS AHEAD
By Dr.P.H Banaiyi
Being in many internet groups (I have unsubscribed from most in recent
times) with many Nigerians at home and in the diaspora one gets used to
receiving insults from people who have run out of ideas and those who
feel frustrated that you do not share the same views with them. I am
about to step on many toes and I hope I do it really good because I am
privileged to see what they are not seeing. Stepping on toes with truth
and love is a responsibility which we must not shy away from. For all
those who will abuse and insult me for this write up I bless you in
return and for those who will bless me I return double blessings upon
you and for those who are neutral I bless you all the same. For those
who may not believe what they are about to read, don’t worry, you have
only a few more weeks to wait!
I am not a politician and have never been one even though I have in my
own little way supported some politicians in the past out of personal
convictions and some in risky circumstances such as the first coming of
Olusegun Obasanjo as a civilian President in 1999 when I was in
Abeokuta, Ogun State: I still recall the voice of my Yoruba friends
saying “Bamaiyi, be careful! It is you Hausa people that want to impose
Obasanjo on us…” All that is history now as he lost the elections in the
southwest of Nigeria but still won in the larger majority of Nigeria and
became the President! But the same southwest voted overwhelmingly for
him for the second term in office in 2003. Was I satisfied with OBJ’s
regime? Certainly not!
In 1993 I told a group that neither MKO Abiola nor Bashir Tofa will be
President of Nigeria forever before the June 12 peaceful elections were
held but how many believed me? Today it is history! In 2011 I received
insults from internet friends and invisible people on listservs I belong
to because I dared to tell them that Buhari will not be President of
Nigeria when they were convinced he will be! Today it is history!
I told some people years ago that one day Some Nigerians will become
suicide bombers as we hear about in other countries but how many
believed? Today it is history and it is sad how we refuse to take heed
to avert evils in the land!
Years ago when Good luck Jonathan was a Vice-President and nothing
seemed wrong with Yar’Adua I told a group “watch out for this man Good
luck Jonathan…” but it was like a joke to some but today it is history
that he succeeded his boss.
Nigerians are disturbed about the forth coming elections and opposing
sides are desperate to outdo the other ultimately to ensure their
candidates get to Aso rock. The 2 frontline candidates are incumbent
President Goodluck Jonathan and the former head of state Major General
Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd). Lest I forget let me quickly say I have nothing
personally against either of them but my personal wish is that neither
of them occupies Aso rock come May 29th, 2015! If it was within my power
neither of the duo will be President of Nigeria after this forth coming
elections. But what will happen in the forth-coming elections and who
occupies Aso rock is not in my power as a person to decide so my wish is
not granted! This is what will happen to Nigeria and after all comes to
pass I may decide to tell people how I know some things before they
happen:
1. The 2015 elections will be held amidst tight security but history
will unfortunately repeat itself in the wasting of lives like in 2011.
But by now everybody should have known that some people in the north
east will not be able to vote due to the insurgency. Lovers of Nigeria
especially those who have access to the security agencies please advised
them to go the extra mile in tightening security around the elections to
possibly avert or minimize loss of lives.
2. The boko haram insurgency will continue for the rest of the year and
it will take more years to bring them into oblivion
3. Like it happen in 1999 to Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan will
lose election in the north east and a good portion of some of the
northern states and isolated pockets in other parts of Nigeria but will
ultimately win the Presidential elections and be sworn in as President
4. This year’s election will witness a better performance for Buhari
than 2011 and it will be the closest he will come to becoming the
President of Nigeria after becoming Head of State in December, 1983. I
remember we celebrated to martial music on the 31st December, 1983 as
the military took over power and Buhari became Head of State. Buhari
will lose the elections but it will not be convincing enough to silence
his flowers and the dreaded carnage feared will be unleashed by his
supporters but will not last long! This will be the last time Buhari
will contest elections in Nigeria!
5. Change will come to Nigeria in the latter days but it will not be the
kind of change people are advocating for now and certainly not in the
way mere mortals determine now. Change will be gradual though a few will
come suddenly.
6. It is too late for Nigeria to divide as a country into smaller
countries. Those clamouring for the breaking of Nigeria and even
predicting it are wasting their time. The earlier Nigerians all join
hands to build a stronger nation for our posterity the better for us
all. There are a small almost insignificant minority who are not on the
headlines but because of them Nigeria will survive and thrive against
all odds.
7. There are other matters I will choose whether to share or not after
the forth coming elections and you may wish to keep this message handy
to revisit after the elections so you can believe other matters to be
shared!
But the most important message is this: PRAY FOR NIGERIA! Again I say
PRAY FOR NIGERIA!! And PURSUE PEACE AT ALL COSTS!!!
