The Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Hon Aminu Tambuwal, has asked the authorities concerned to investigate the remote and immediate cause of the stampede that led to the death of some Nigerians at various employment screening centres of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
Hon. Tambuwal also advised the NIS to map out strategies to prevent future occurrence of the tragic incident he described as unfortunate.
In a statement issued by the Speaker’s spokesman, Mr Imam Imam, Tambuwal said that the death of the innocent youths was sorrowful and regrettable considering the fact that they were at the screening centres in search of jobs that would better their lots and that of their loved ones.
He urged governments at all levels to work closely with the Organised Private Sector to tackle the unemployment crisis facing the nation.
While condoling with the families of those who lost their lives, the Speaker prayed to God to give the injured a speedy recovery.
The NIS held employment screening at various centres across the country over the weekend with at least 10 persons report dead at the Abuja and Benin centres.
Over 50,000 job seekers were at the Abuja screening centre where at least seven person were reported dead.
