The Rivers Police Command said on Monday that it had removed an explosive device, suspected to be dynamite, dumped at the premises of the Ahoada High Court in the state.
Mr Ahmad Mohammad, the command’s Public Relations Officer, said the device was uncovered at the court’s premises following a tip-off.
According to Muhammad, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, the police immediately mobilised, condoned off the area and removed the objects.
” Our anti bomb disposal unit successfully removed the device and there was no explosion,” he said.
The court was expected to sit on Monday to determine the ex-parte motion filed by Mr Otelemba Amachree, the speaker of the state House of Assembly.
Amachree, who represents Asari-Toru constituency in the assembly, had filed the application in November, 2013 seeking to stop Mr Evans Bipi, a member representing Ogu/Bolo constituency, from parading himself as Speaker of the House.
