Christmas is God’s Redeeming Love that heals our Differences – Obiano
As Nigerian Christians unite with their brethren across the world to mark the birth of Jesus Christ, the Governor-elect of Anambra State Chief Willie Obiano has appealed to them to use this period to re-evaluate their relationship with themselves and their God and work for a better and harmonious society.
In special Christmas Message entitled “It is a Season of Love,” the Governor Elect observed that “The true meaning of Christmas therefore lies in its redeeming love that heals our differences; a special kind of love that does not discriminate but reconciles one to another and man to God. Indeed the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ is the single most important event in the life of mankind in the last 2000 years.”
According to him, living in a world that is constantly in want of healing, the human capacity for self-renewal and greatness has been grossly limited by the twin evils of bitterness and hatred.
“Thankfully, over 2000 years ago, our Lord Jesus Christ was born. The birth of Christ changed all things and gave mankind a new hope. It is this birth that we celebrate today. In giving us his son, the Almighty God demonstrated the overriding importance of love in the affairs of men,” Chief Obiano explained.
The Governor Elect further observed that Christmas symbolizes the sacrificial love of God to mankind in a manner that binds the fate of one man to another, describing it as God’s greatest exemplary act that shows how humanity and our communities should live together in love.
Chief Obiano also reasoned that in a world torn by strife and hatred, humanity’s hope lies in part, in our little acts of kindness to one another that remind us of God’s sacrificial love to mankind.
“As followers of Christ, let us, therefore show love to one another, be kind to one another and work for a peaceful and harmonious co-existence in our communities and the larger society. Let us follow God’s sacrificial love and make the world a better place with the little acts that bear testimony to the presence of Christ in us. There is no better time to begin this journey than this Christmas season. We can change this world, our world, if we try!” the Governor Elect further declared.
