The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured Nigerians that Saturday’s Anambra supplementary election will be free and fair.
The commission’s spokesperson, Mr Kayode Idowu, said this on Friday in Abuja.
“INEC is prepared for the Anambra supplementary election. We have identified the challenges with the Nov. 16 governorship election and we are expecting a smooth election on Saturday,’’ he said.
Idowu appealed to the political parties that threatened to boycott the election to reconsider their stands and avail themselves with the opportunity of the supplementary election.
He stressed that the lapses recorded in the governorship elections were not enough to cancel the entire exercise.
Idowu assured Nigerians that there would be adequate security in the places where the Nov. 16 election was marred with irregularities.
INEC on Thursday begun the distribution of materials for the supplementary governorship election.
The image maker said that the materials collected by electoral officials included inks and ballot papers while the result sheets were still being awaited.
