The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday said it had notified INEC of the suspension of Alhaji Kawu Baraje, Dr Sam Jaja, Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Alhaji Ibrahim Kazaure from the party.
Mr Olisa Metuh, National Publicity Secretary of the party, made the disclosure in a statement issued in Abuja.
According to the statement, the party`s National Working Committee (NWC) informed INEC of the suspension in a letter signed by the party`s National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.
The party leadership had on November 11, suspended the members, accusing them of engaging in anti-party activities and violation of the party`s constitution.
The party said the officers breached Section 57 (3) of the PDP Constitution 2012 as amended.
The section provides that: anyone who does or says anything that brings the party to disrepute, hatred and contempt, has committed a disciplinary offence.”
Oyinlola is the National Secretary of the PDP splinter group while Baraje and Jaja refer to themselves as its Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively.
A Federal High Court in Abuja presided over by Justice Abdul Kafarati on Jan. 11, nullified Oyinlola`s election as PDP’s National Secretary.
The ruling was based on a suit filed by the Chairman of Ogun State chapter of PDP, Mr Adebayo Dayo.
Oyinlola was, however, reinstated by Justice Joseph Tor of the Appeal Court on November 6, who ruled that he was the authentic National Secretary of PDP.
The National Legal Adviser of PDP, Mr Victor Kwom, said the party was studying the Appeal Court’s judgment and would react at the appropriate time.
Reacting, Oyinlola said his suspension from the party was an attempt to circumvent the ruling of the Court of Appeal that reinstated him.
