A 29-year-old hawker, Friday Adikwu, who allegedly defiled a five-year-old daughter of a blind man on Monday appeared before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Adikwu, who lives at No. 14 Tenibegiloju Str., Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of defilement and assault.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Richard Odigie, said that the accused committed the offence on September 30 at about 3.30 p.m.
Odigie said the victim was left to play with her father’s neighbours after she returned from school since she had no mother.
The prosecutor said that the accused took advantage of the situation by luring his victim with biscuit to his room where the crime was committed.
Odigie said that the offence contravened Sections 135 and 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 137 states: “Any person who has sex intercourse with a child is guilty of felony and is liable to imprisonment for life.”
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Ms. S.O. Solebo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Solebo said that the sureties should produce an affidavit of means and evidence of tax payment.
She adjourned the case to November 14 for hearing.
