The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has described the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a party of hypocrites, lacking in genuine ideology and principles, for “desperately coaxing PDP governors” and celebrating mere discussions with them.”
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, said: “By wooing PDP governors the APC has also confirmed that it lacked true followership and electable materials at all levels, hence its desperate bid to poach from the PDP.”
The ruling party said the APC has shown that it is nothing but “a party of hypocrites driven by desperate and blind quest for power and not by any ideology geared towards serving the interest of the people.”
Stating that the bid to poach will not yield any meaningful result, the ruling party said it “is instead the normal practice for politically informed persons to move from parochial parties such as the APC to a national party with robust ideology and agenda such as the PDP and not vice versa.”
“In turning around to woo members of the PDP, a party it has continued to castigate, the APC has shown the height of hypocrisy and ultimately confirms to Nigerians that it has nothing to offer and truly lacked genuine ideology and principle. The APC has shown that it lacks genuine followership and electable materials. Otherwise why would it be desperate to poach from the PDP? Why would it celebrate and dramatize mere discussions with three or four aggrieved governors of the PDP?
“In any case, what else would one expect from a party borne out of lust for power. Nigerians are aware that the APC is nothing but a party of strange bed fellows united only by their inordinate quest and desperation for power. It is clear to all that what we have in the APC is a gathering of hypocrites and despots whose only interest is to rule and lord it over Nigerians. What the APC forgets is that Nigerians are no fools and cannot be deceived by its antics”.
The statement however said the PDP is not perturbed by the actions of the opposition adding that “no genuine member of the PDP will opt for the APC”, which it described as a party given to religious bigotry and promotion of violence and divisions among Nigerians.
“Joining the APC is to join in promoting divisions among Nigerians. This is a party of religious bigots who have continued to fan the embers of religious fanaticism, ethnicism, dissensions and general social intolerance among Nigerians. Joining the APC is to join in expanding the activities of oppressive feudal lords such as Asiwaju Bola Tibunu who has turned Lagos and some southwest states into his personal estates and is now busy imposing leaders, looting state funds, converting state owned property to personal belongings and milking the citizens with high taxes to finance his wasteful lifestyle.”
The PDP however reassured that “as the only truly national party, commanding genuine followership across the country, it will continue to be wholly committed to the national interest and the unity of the country in line with the principles of equity and justice as encapsulated in the PDP ideology and manifesto”
The party also commended President Goodluck Jonathan for “his humility and the calmness he has exhibited in the face of provocations and unwarranted vituperations and attacks by the opposition. Describing such as “a mark of a true statesman”, the party said some other leaders would not have accepted such.
It therefore urged Nigerians to continue to support the President and his Transformation Agenda which is geared towards the good of all.
