Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Senator Bala Mohammed has granted the request by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to host the Nigerian Capital Market Conference in Abuja next month.
The Minister gave his approval to be the Chief Host of the event when the Director-General of SEC, Ms. Arunma Oteh led management members of the commission on a courtesy visit him at his office in Abuja.
Senator Bala Mohammed said that the FCT was happy to host the conference since it is coming at a time when the Territory’s Administration is seeking additional funding for its critical projects.
He stressed that the forum would help to open windows for increased private sector participation and capital inflow into FCT which would culminate in accelerated development in diverse sectors such as infrastructure, housing, transportation and health.
The Minister subsequently set up a high-powered Technical Committee headed by the Executive Secretary of FCDA, Engineer Ismaila Adamu to ensure a successful of the conference in Abuja. Also in the committee are the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, the Special Assistant on Legal Matters to the FCT Minister and the Coordinator of Abuja Infrastructure Investment Centre (AIIC) among others.
Ms. Oteh had earlier informed the FCT Minister about the intention of the Commission to stage the Conference this year in Abuja. She solicited for logistics support from the Minister and his Administration towards a successful hosting of the Conference by FCT. She said the conference would attract many experts and many international as well as national partners such as Transcorp Hilton while all operators of the capital market would equally be in attendance.
Ms. Oteh said Delta and Akwa Ibom states hosted the last two editions of the Capital Market Conference respectively.
