Former Secretary-General of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Mr Udengs Eradiri, has called for probe into the death of a Bayelsan, 28-year old Stanley Eteimo, in Cyprus.
Eradiri made the call in Yenagoa on Friday when he spoke with journalists.
He said Cyprus had not done enough to unravel the actual circumstances that led to Eteimo’s death.
“It is sad to hear that an Ijaw son was murdered in North Cyprus. Up till now, the authorities could not explain the circumstances that led to his death; we won’t take this any longer.
“We condemn the killing of the Ijaw youth studying in North Cyprus and call for further inquiry into the circumstances that led to his death’’, Eradiri said.
The body of Eteimo, a budding singer, was reportedly found floating in a hotel beach after a night party with friends on August 8.
Eteimo had gone to a party at the popular 5-star Kratos Hotel last Wednesday with some friends.
“Eteimo had met an old white female classmate at the venue and went to say hello when her jealous boyfriend stepped forward and warned him to steer clear of his girlfriend.
“The eyewitness claimed that both men had a heated argument before the angry Cypriot boyfriend threatened Eteimo, saying he would deal with him for disrespecting him’’, he said.
Eradiri said Ijaw youths were not satisfied with the claim by Cyprus police that the victim got himself drowned in the hotel beach.
“A brother of the deceased, Julius Eteimo, who went to identify the body, insists that his brother had no reason to kill himself and that he saw blood stains on his ear, mouth, nose and neck.
“The brother has also called on the hotel to produce tapes of the CCTV for that night, which the hotel management has turned down.’’
He said the man who threatened his younger brother should be interrogated.
Eradiri, who said he received the news with shock and disbelief, called on the Federal Government and the Cypriot authorities to ensure that justice was done on the matter.
