While some are stealing millions of Naira belonging to Nigeria or institutions and getting away with it, this vulcaniser decided to steal a shirt. Unluckily for him, he did not get away with it.
A 26-year-old Mohammed Abdullahi, of AYA, Asokoro, Abuja, was on Wednesday appeared in a Grade 1 Area Court, Aso Pada, Mararaba in Nasarawa State for allegedly stealing a shirt.
Police prosecutor Inuwa Maigida told the court that the matter was reported on Aug. 9 by Christopher Onan of One man village at the ‘A’ Division Police Station in Mararaba.
Maigida said on Aug. 9, at about 3.30 p.m., Abdullahi went to Onan’s shop, located under the pedestrian bridge in Mararaba, pretending to be interested in buying a shirt.
He said in the process, the accused stole the short-sleeve shirt valued at N1,500 that was on displayed for sale.
The prosecutor alleged that the accused hid the shirt inside his trousers and took to his heels before he was arrested by the police.
Maigida said the offence contravened the provision of section 288 of the Penal Code.
The accused pleaded guilty, and the presiding officer, Mr Albert Maga, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 and a surety in like sum.
Maga ordered that the surety must be posses landed property and reside within the jurisdiction of the court, and adjourned the case to September 5.
