Weekend’s celebration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Anambra State appears to be short lived, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected Chief Ken Emeakayi who the party paraded in the rally as its chairman.
Over the weekend, INEC wrote the PDP notifying it of its rejection of Emeakayi saying he was not duly elected in accordance with the guidelines governing the election of officials of the party.
A letter signed by U. F. Usman for the Secretary of the Commission said that whereas it monitored the election of Chief Emma Nweze in 2010, before his sudden resignation from the position, it did not witness any congress or convention where the said Emeakayi was elected as the party in Anambra State.
In the letter to the Acting Chairman of the PDP, Hon. Chibudom Nwuche, INEC said after the resignation of the former executive committee led by Emma Nweze, the party conducted another congress in March 2012 where Ejike Ogbuebego was elected as the chairman of the PDP in the state.
The letter further declared that after due consideration of the ruling of a federal High Court in Port Harcourt which on August 6 restrained INEC from recognizing, dealing or doing anything with Ken Emeakayi as the chairman of the PDP in Anambra State pending its ruling on August 20, the Commission said it will not withdraw its letter of recognition written to Ejike Ogbuebego.
“The Commission has resolved that it will not withdraw its letter reference No INEC/EPM/PDP/24/1/153 of 16 July, 2013 by which the Commission recognized Ejike Ogbuebego as the Chairman of the PDP in Anambra State and shall be bound by the recent order of a Port Harcourt Federal High Court”.
