The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd has strongly countered claims made in a viral video circulating online, which falsely alleges that NNPC fuel does not last.

In a statement was issued by Olufemi O. Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd, in Abuja on Saturday,, the company called the allegations “baseless” and “unfounded,” attributing them to unverified and amateur research that lacks professional credibility.

NNPC Ltd reassured the public that its fuel is formulated with high-quality compositions, designed to provide optimal efficiency, durability, and sustainability. The company emphasized that it maintains rigorous standards to ensure the fuel meets consumer needs and adheres to environmental requirements.

The statement also clarified that a significant portion of the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) sold at NNPC stations in Lagos — where the controversial video originated — is sourced from the Dangote Refinery, a key strategic partner in enhancing local production and energy security. NNPC highlighted that the Dangote Refinery complies with industry standards, ensuring the highest quality of petroleum products.

In response to the viral video, NNPC Ltd expressed concern over what it described as a “deliberate attempt” by economic saboteurs to tarnish its reputation. The company condemned the spread of misinformation and warned that it would take legal action against those responsible for spreading false claims. “We will not tolerate deliberate misinformation designed to undermine our operations and mislead Nigerians,” the statement read.

The company urged the public to disregard the fabricated content and rely on verified sources for accurate information. NNPC Ltd reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the availability, affordability, and quality of fuel for Nigerians while adhering to global industry standards.

NNPC Ltd closed the statement by assuring the public that it would take all necessary steps to protect its brand and operations.
