Don Harps On Engagement of Professors, Experts in Revamping Nigeria’s Economy

Worried over the dwindling economy in Nigeria, a Professor of Industrial Chemistry at the Federal University, Lokoja in Kogi state, Professor Benjamin Dauda has stressed the need for engagement of professors and economic experts to revamp the trend.

Professor Dauda made the call while delivering his Inaugural Lecture titled, Polymer: Material Driving Technological Advancement held at the University’s Auditorium in Lokoja on Wednesday.

The Chief Lecturer said that Professors and Economic Experts have the potentials to contribute immensely towards effective industrialization of any given nation.

He expressed concern over under utilisation of professors in making their Impacts towards nation building, advocating that they must be seriously engaged in uplifting Nigeria’s Economy and development in other sectors of human endeavours.

He called on captains of industry in Nigeria to synergy with the academics and establish thriving research and development unit that would engage researchers in solving Nigeria’s socioeconomic woes.

Professor Daudu also called on industrialists such as Dangote Group of Company and others to engage many professors as possible who could help in proffering solutions to the nation’s economic predicament.

Professor Daudu who specialised in POLYMER, noted that research has shown that Polymer is of great asset and value in propelling the growth of the industrial sector.

According to him “Polymer is of great value in production of plastics, rubbers and rubber bags etc. It has also aided material driving technological advancement of nations across the globe”

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi while declaring the ceremony open, commended the outstanding achievements of Professor Benjamin Dauda in his academic discipline which he rated as worthy of emulation.

Akinwumi gave an assurance that the management of the University would sustain the enabling condition that necessitated sound academics and learning in the institution since its establishment.
