Coordinator of the Anyiam-Osigwe Group, Michael Anyiam- Osigwe., is dead.
He died on Sunday evening after he was was shot by armed robbers who overpowered his security details between Okada and Benin, both in Edo State.
Anyiam -Osigwe who was on his way to Imo State for a function, was rushed to the hospital after he was shot and though the doctors battled to save his life, he eventually gave up the ghost.
Though he was rescued alive from the scene of the robbery operation, Anyiam-Osigwe eventually died in the hospital where he was taken to for treatment.
He died on Sunday evening.
Until his death, Anyiam-Osigwe was Secretary to the Supervisory Board. He studied economics and went on to obtain a Masters Degree in Social Anthropology and Ethnomusicology from Goldsmiths College, University of London.Under employment with Tsakos-Pedmacgrek Shipping JV, 1986-90 he acquired both training and experience in Ship Management and Operations. He was a member of the IBIA (International Bunker Industry Association) and benefited from various international seminars and workshops on shipping and marine operations.
Under a Third World study programme he conducted extensive studies and research on indigenous political structures in Africa with special emphasis on Nigeria.
He also undertook courses on resource development centering on project planning and implementation in developing countries. He was a regular contributor to national and international discourse and has authored several academic treatises and essays on topical issues that have been published in journals, magazines and newspapers. Nze Anyiam-Osigwe was the Director of Operations for M. D.Yusufu’s Presidential Campaign in 1998.
He also served on the Board of other NGOs and was an active member of a number of important national and international organizations and institutions. He is on the Board of the Nigerian Foundation for Ethnic and Religious Tolerance (FERET). He was an Associate of the University of Pretoria based African Centre of Excellence in Information Ethics as well as the Chairman of Imo cooperative Thrift and Loans Union. He was the Honourary Consul-General of the Republic of Malawi to Nigeria.
