The statement added: “Asthma is a major cause of chronic morbidity and mortality throughout the world. Unfortunately, asthma is under-diagnosed and under-treated, and is one of those illnesses that fly under the radar when it comes to Nigeria (and Africa as a whole). However, we believe that with proper education, treatment and management, the burden of asthma on the individual, family and the community can be reduced.
“Beat the Wheeze aims to increase community understanding of asthma and its management while providing a platform for people to get involved, connect and support a good cause. It is a fun and educative event featuring different activities including warm up by fitness coach Maje Ayida, asthma health talk, administration of free lung function tests, bake sale and a raffle draw! Asthma information resources will also be disseminated to the general public during the walk.”
