A tragic road accident involving a trailer has claimed several lives and left many others injured in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, following a suspected brake failure.
The incident occurred as the truck descended from the busy Beere Roundabout. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the vehicle lost control after passing through Oja’Oba and veered uncontrollably at Beere Junction.
In the ensuing chaos, the trailer rammed into vehicles, motorcycles, and pedestrians, causing widespread destruction and multiple casualties.
The worst-hit area was reported to be Iso-Osan, popularly known as Orange Market, where the truck caused significant damage to property and left several victims critically injured.
Security operatives and emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene to manage the situation and restore order. The bodies of those who lost their lives have been taken to a morgue, while the injured are receiving treatment in nearby hospitals.
Confirming the incident, Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Alayande, said casualties were recorded but the exact number of deaths could not yet be verified.
He noted that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Mapo Division is coordinating response efforts to ensure calm is restored as investigations continue.
