The All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally welcomed Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling party.

The governor was received at a large-scale ceremony in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, where the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, presented him with the party flag, officially affirming him as the leader of the APC in the state.

With Kefas’ entry, the APC now has 30 governors within the Progressive Governors Forum, further consolidating its political strength nationwide.

Speaking at the event, Professor Yilwatda described the governor’s decision as timely and beneficial to the people of Taraba State, noting that alignment with the party at the centre would position the state to benefit more from federal programmes and interventions under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

The APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, also hailed the defection, describing it as a moment of joy for the party’s national leadership and a reflection of the APC’s growing appeal across the country.

In his address, Governor Kefas said his move to the APC was guided by purpose and a desire to fast-track development in Taraba State rather than political considerations. He stressed that the decision was aimed at expanding opportunities for youths and women, improving agricultural productivity, and accelerating infrastructure development.

“I am here for the progress of Taraba State,” the governor said, pledging full commitment to the APC and to improving the welfare of the people.

The event attracted party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters from across the state and marks a significant political shift in Taraba, strengthening the APC’s presence in the North-East.
